Joy Bautista
Science Faculty
Joy Bautista began her music and science career in high school at the Interlochen Arts Academy. Her percussion training there allowed her to teach percussion in addition to science at BAA in previous years.
She received her BA in biology and educational studies from Brown University, her MAEd in science teaching from Wake Forest University, and Principal certification from Northeastern University. In addition, she holds special education certification. She was instrumental in developing curricula for New Mission High School in Roxbury, and has mentored teachers for the Urban Scholars Program, Harvard University, Tufts University, and Boston College. Ms. Bautista has presented science curriculum at numerous national and local education conventions, provided professional development for Boston public school teachers, and served on the Center for Collaborative Education's teacher board. In 2003, Wake Forest University named her the recipient of the Wadill Marcellus Excellence in Teaching Award.
