Matt Clauhs grew up in Pennsylvania, first gaining experience as a musician in restaurants and clubs in the Philadelphia area. He studied saxophone and flute at Penn State University while earning a bachelor of science in music education. After graduating from college Matt moved to the Boston area and joined the music faculty at the Boston Arts Academy, a public high school for performing and visual arts.  There he teaches jazz band, jazz combo, jazz theory, and music technology.  Matt also teaches part time for the Berklee College of Music: City Music program, directing ensembles, teaching private lessons and music theory.  In 2009 Matt was honored by the Berklee College of Music City Music Program for outstanding service in music education to students of Boston.    
 
Matt completed his masters in music education from the University of Massachusetts and performs locally with the Two Worlds Orchestra, Sunyata Jazz Quartet, Rollo Tomasi Quartet, Julie Lavendar Quintet, Phresh Act, Jerry Bennett Sultan’s of Swing, and the
Florencia Gonzalez Big Band.  Matt has performed in all of Boston’s finest jazz clubs including Ryles, Regattabar, Acton Jazz Café, The Dream Farm Café, the Chit Chat Lounge, The Alchemist, and Les Zygomates. He has recorded with Universal-Japan Records artist Steph Pockets.  Matt studied with saxophonists George Garzone, David Stambler, Dan Yoder, and Carrie Koffman.
