Allyssa Jones

Allyssa Jones began piano lessons at the age of 5, and continued at Adelphi University receiving a B.S. Music Education and Northern Illinois University where she received a M.M. Music Education. She has taught at the Coatesville Area School District in Pennsylvania. A 2005 Surdna Fellow and a recipient of the Massachusetts Department of Education's Attracting Excellence to Teaching Award, she has been a guest conductor for the Boston Children’s Chorus and Curriculum Consultant for the Bubs Foundation's "Be the Music" program. Currently, she is the Jazz Repertoire and Standards Chair for the Massachusetts ACDA.
An active workshop leader/panelist, Ms. Jones has presented at the Massachusetts ACDA Summer Conference, the Rhode Island Music Educators Association’s spring in-service, the Barr Foundation’s “Measuring Up” conference on arts program evaluation, and the Boston Arts Academy Summer Institute. At the 2005 International Association for Jazz Education annual conference, she presented at the first-ever workshop on teaching vocal jazz ensembles in urban schools.
Named one of Boston Magazine's "40 Bostonians to Watch" in 2001, Ms. Jones is also a professional vocalist and arranger. She has performed in numerous festivals and clubs, including Southport Records' "Women of Southport" Jazz Festival in Chicago and Johnny D’s in Somerville. Her credits also include music direction/score adaptation and composition for Boston Arts Academy productions, including West Side Story and The Colored Museum, and sound design for Company One's 2002 production of Twighlight: Los Angeles 1992.
