Special Education

Ms. Keyes studied history at Alfred University in upstate NY and earned a B.S. in Special Education with a minor in Art at the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1979. In 1994 Ms. Keyes received her M.Ed. from Lesley University in Special Education with a concentration in inclusion practices.

Before coming to The Boston Arts Academy, Ms. Keyes worked in the field of human services in upstate NY, NH and MA with a concentration in program development, management and supervision of residential and vocational programs. In academic settings she has worked as an inclusion specialist, job developer, assessment coordinator and learning center special educator. She also worked as a learning center coordinator for eight years at Reading Memorial High School in Reading, MA.   

While at BAA Ms. Keyes has mentored interns and teachers working towards special education certification and strategies in inclusive settings.  More recently she has been involved in the preparation and assessment for the summer reading program, the four week intensive reading initiative at BAA.   In 2008 Ms Keyes completed the certification of advanced graduate study in reading through the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions and is certified as a Reading Specialist.
