Math Faculty

Mark Lonergan has been teaching at Boston Arts Academy since 2000.  He received his B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Virginia (1995) and his M.Ed. in Teaching and Curriculum from the Harvard Graduate School of Education  (2000). Before coming to BAA, Mr. Lonergan was and English teacher in rural Japan and also taught math in Fairfax County, Virginia and Cambridge, Massachusetts.  In 2000, he was awarded a Massachusetts Department of Education signing-bonus for promising new teachers.

While at BAA, Mr. Lonergan has served as student government advisor, math department chair, math curriculum developer, mentor teacher, lead teacher for summer school and academic representative to the Leadership Team. In 2005, Mr. Lonergan was awarded a grant to travel to Peru as part of the Fund for Teachers Residency. Mr. Lonergan has also taken classes in architecture, design science, website development and completed his special education/ moderate disabilities certification in 2005. Mr. Lonergan has presented his work on math curriculum development at several local and national conferences, and wrote an article for the spring 2007 issue of Horace education journal.  Mr. Lonergan has also been part of the BAA Summer Institute staff since 2007.  Also in 2007, Mr. Lonergan took on two new roles at BAA: he is now the Assessment and Testing Coordinator and he just completed a principal certification program through the Principal Resident Network (PRN) at Northeastern University. From 2007 to 2009, Mr. Lonergan was the Assessment and Testing Coordinator for BAA.
