Helen Russell
Director of Communications and Program Development

Helen Russell brings over 25 years of work experience in educational program development for youth to the Arts Academy.  She graduated from Boston College with a degree in Cognitive Psychology and worked teaching in a variety of non-traditional settings, principally in the outdoors. After receiving her M.Ed. at Harvard in 1990, she worked as the Program Director for the Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center for six years. Under Helen’s leadership, Thompson Island served 20,000 people annually and established Outward Bound course models in many Boston schools.

Most recently, she was a founding staff member at the Mission Hill School, a k-8 pilot school, where in addition to her fundraising role, she ran an out-of-school internship program for middle school students. At Boston Arts Academy, she is responsible for developing and sustaining the vital relationships with outside agencies, funders and community partners that support the growth and development of BAA students and faculty.
