Overview
The Parent/Caregiver Council Board (PCCB) is a diverse group of parents/caregivers representative of the student body. All parents/caregivers are members. The PCCB meets monthly and includes the school's Headmaster, Family Advocate, and a member of the Student Government.
The purpose of the parent/caregiver council is to involve parents/caregivers in all aspects that relate to the operation of the school. The parent/caregiver council is committed to a membership that is as diverse as the school's student body. The Parent/Caregiver Council Board addresses issues that are raised by the parents/caregivers and/or the school's administration such as MCAS, Achievement Gap, Assessment Communication, Fundraisers, Planning for Upcoming Events, and Academic Activities. In the beginning of each school year parents/caregivers volunteer to serve as Classroom Parents/Caregivers as well as on the following committees:
Fundraising: This committee identifies grants and fundraising opportunities throughout the school year. Funds are raised to support student activities and each department (dance, vocal, visual arts and theater).
Political Action: This committee supports parent/caregiver advocacy to specific needs such as, student safety issues, maintaining community relationships, school facilities issues etc..
Diversity: This committee maintains a climate within the school community that fosters open communication and embraces diversity by providing workshops.
Events: The Events Committee helps in organizing and getting other parent/caregivers participation to support various activities, such as graduation, teacher appreciation luncheon, and other events that require volunteers for transportation, donations of food and parent/caregiver presence.
Additionally, there are representatives from the Parent/Caregiver Council Board that serve on the school's Board of Trustees and Governing Council that meet quarterly. This assures parents/caregivers a voice in the operation of the school. Information from those meetings is reported back to the parent/caregiver council.
