Joy Eriksson
Joy Eriksson
Mathematics Faculty

Raised in a family full of educators, Joy was determined to become a biologist.  However, after completing her undergraduate studies in Sociology at Stanford University, she went into social work for only a brief time before following her heart and going into the classroom. She spent four years of teaching math, science, and literature to middle school students at a private school in Los Angeles, then spent another four years teaching math here in Boston at the Edison Middle School. Joy enjoys math beyond her classroom and has completed several courses in Mathematics at the Harvard Extension School. She has also spent two years as a mentor teacher in the Boston Teachers Residency program and as a member of her school's Instructional Leadership Team.

Ms. Eriksson really believes in getting to know her students beyond their academics, so she has spent several years working with student councils and coaching (volleyball and soccer) at her previous schools.

Outside of the classroom Joy is busy with her 1-year old son and her husband. She enjoys playing Ultimate Frisbee, reading for her bookclub, cooking, surfing (in warmer climates), and travelling.
